W&B #16 Cover Issue 16
"Sodd, We Hardly Knew Ye"

Pity poor Sodd, the Thing Called It. The former Herbert Moss was turned into a vegetative creature in a freak accident. Arrested for damaging public property, he has achieved notoriety and fame (his autobiography is being turned into a T.V. movie, and he's even successfully defended a paternity suit) as his case has slowly made it's way through the courts. When the day of his trial finally arrives, Sodd interrupts his attorney's opening statement to make an impassioned plea for the environment -- then flees the courtroom to join forces with the Terra-ists, a radical environmental group. Now, he's a wanted fugitive, and what's worse, his attorney's are displeased with him!

Wolff and Byrd have been handling Sodd's case since the first issue of their comic book (April, 1994). Now, in issue 16, Sodd's story is finally coming to an end. Will he find true love with activist Fern Levine? Or will he end up withering on the vine in jail? And will he make enough money from his book and TV movie to pay for his legal fees?

To help wrap up the Sodd saga, cartoonist Batton Lash has enlisted the talents of several popular artists (many of them known for their association with vegetative creatures). Steve Bissette's portrayal of Sodd is featured on the special wraparound cover, while Rick Veitch has supplied a comic strip page. Other cartoonists contributing to the issue include Bernie Wrightson, Charles Vess, Sean McManus, Phil Hester, and Jeff Smith.

Lash plans to donate the original art for the cover as well as the guest interior art to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund for a future auction.

This issue is available as part of the trade paperback, Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. 4. Ask for it at your local comics retailer, or order directly from Exhibit A Press via this Website!

Issue 15
"The Littest Loup Garou",
"The Statue of Limitations"
and "The Returns of Roger Rizzoli"

In three separate short stories, Alanna and Jeff go up against a kitchy-style painter in "The Littlest Loup Garou," represent a love-struck client in "The Statue of Limitations," and deal with death and taxes in "The Returns of Roger Rizoli." Pinups by B.C. Boyer (Hilly Rose) and surprise guest artists.

"Bad Blood"
The Big Easy Gets a Little Tough for Wolff & Byrd

Attorneys Alanna Wolff and Jeff Byrd acquired the one and only Count Dracula as a client back in issue #6 of Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre. Now the ancient vampire once again has need of their services -- it seems some young upstart vampires in New Orleans are raising his blood pressure.

In issue #14 of Wolff & Byrd, Alanna and Jeff accompany the Count to the Crescent City, a place that abounds with monsters, witches, and spirits -- and not just during Mardi Gras!

The new generation of vampires are headquartered in an eerie old mansion, once a gothic church, that is owned by a mysterious woman, Ayn Wryce. These young creatures of the night are more than just roommates -- they're "Fiends."

Readers will find this a comic they can really sink their teeth into. During the course of the issue, gris gris is performed, gumbo is consumed, secrets are revealed, and writs are filed.

Says Batton Lash, writer/artist of Wolff & Byrd, "Setting the story in New Orleans provides some visual treats, and the undead are always good for a few laughs. I get in my digs at goths, annoying sitcoms, old world thinking, popular novelists, relationships, and, of course, our favorite bloodsuckers: vampires and lawyers."

This issue is available as part of the trade paperback, Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. 4. Ask for it at your local comics retailer, or order directly from Exhibit A Press via this Website!
