Issue 10
"I'm Carrying Satan's Baby"

Satan. Religious fundamentalists. Abortion. Yes, its another wacky, hilarious issue of Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre. In this takeoff on Rosemary's Baby, a small-town girl discovers she's carrying the devil's child and decides to get an abortion. The fundamentalist townspeople get wind of the abortion plans and strongly voice their opposition. But then they learn that the fetus is the spawn of Satan: Do they want to be responsible for unleashing this devil-child upon the world? The legal issues are inconceivable, bringing attorneys Alanna Wolff and Jeff Byrd to the scene--where there's bound to be hell to pay!

Special Bonus: Pinup of W&B by THB's Paul Pope!

This issue is out of print. This issue is also available as part of the trade paperback, Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. 3, which is also currently out of print.

Issue 9
"The * Files"

Psychic phenomena...alien abductions...unexplained coincidences...these are things Alanna and Jeff can deal with. But when two FBI agents show up and start trampling on Wolff & Byrd's otherworldly client's rights, things really get spooky.

The story involves UFOs, espionage, invasion of privacy, and, of course, illegal aliens!

"I see this parody of The X Files as a jumping off point for lampooning not only UFOlogy but government intervention in people's lives," says writer/artist Batton Lash. "In fact, it's not so much a parody as a satire on people's beliefs and delusions, whether they're in flying saucers or government efficiency."

This issue is currently out of print. This issue is available as part of the trade paperback, Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. 3, which is also currently out of print.

Issue 8
"The Big Convention--Bar, That Is"

Mavis stays home and minds the office while Jeff and Alanna go off to San Diego for the Bar Convention. Mavis ends up tangling with that pesky Toby Bascoe and "Th'Lulu," a creature conjured from an ancient tome. Meanwhile, Wolff & Byrd encounter convention shennanigans, including costumers, huksters, and boring panels, at a more "informal" type of bar convention.

W&B #8 is still available; ask for it at your local comics retailer, or order directly from Exhibit A Press via this Website! This issue is also available as part of the trade paperback, Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. 2, which is currently out of print.

Issue 7
"More Short Stories"

Like issue #3, this issue is a collection of interrelated short stories. First up is "I, Sodd," in which we learn more about this vegetative character, from his own point of view. Then Jeff Byrd tells his own personal story -- "I Turned My Dream Date into a Nightmare" -- of a night on the town with issue 5's supermodel, Dawn DeVine. Finally, "Hodge, the Flunky" is a Damon Runyonesque illustrated ghost story. Bonus: Pinup by Randy Reynaldo, writer/artist of Adventure Strip Digest Featuring Rob Haynes.

This issue is out of print, and although it is also part of the trade paperback, Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. 2, that book is also out of print.

Issue 6
"It Stalks the Public Domain"

Monster shows are springing up all over the city, each claiming to have the "original" dracula, Frankenstein's monster, and Wolf-Man. One show promoter attempts to prove that he has the "real" Dracula -- without thinking about the consequences. Soon the streets of lower New York are filled with vampires, werewolves, and fabricated monsters -- and the villagers (Greenwich, that is!) are up in arms. Meanwhile, Jeff and Alanna must deal with situations in their personal lives: Jeff continues to carry a torch for the very pregnant Kim Curtis (from issue 2) , while Alanna has her hands full with young attorney Tobias Bascoe, who has a crush on her. Special addition: a one-page pinup by Scott Shaw!

This issue is out of print. This issue is also available as part of the trade paperback, Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. 2, which is also currently out of print.

Issue 5
"That Model Client"

Supermodel Dawn DeVine wants to get out of her contract with the Greatbody Agency, but the agency's head, Jake Panache, has a magical hold over her. The supernatural nature of his control is revealed when Dawn is unable to appear in court because of her unusual "condition." Part of the story is told in fairy tale style. Also in this issue: a pinup of Alanna by Jana Christy of Very Vicky fame.

Issue 4
"A Host of Horrors"

When 1950's horror host "The Bier-Meister" is tapped to host a new show on EEK!, the All-Horror Channel, parents' groups try to get the program squelched. Wolff and Byrd end up having to spring the Beir-Meister from jail, deal with the spirit of a 1950's anti-horror crusader, battle do-gooders from the present, and endure the endless recountings of old EC-style horror stories. The comic addresses issues of censorship in popular culture and explores the old vs. the new in concepts of "horror." Added attraction: the first appearance of Niles Pib, British writer of novels and comics, known for creating "The Somnambulist."

W&B #4 is still available; ask for it at your local comics retailer, or order directly from Exhibit A Press via this Website! This issue is also available as part of the trade paperback, Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. 1, which is currently out of print.

Issue 3
"Short Stories"

In this change-of-pace issue we go behind the scenes at the law offices as well as see Alanna and Jeff tackle three separate cases. In "The Zombies Strike at Midnight," workers at the voodoo doll plant consult W&B in their labor dispute with their black magic-wielding boss. Sodd, the Thing Called It, is back in "Court of Public Opinion." Then Wolff & Byrd's secretary, Mavis, has a scary experience on the streets of New York while the counselors themselves experience "Things That Go Bump in the Night ... And Day." Finally, "The Man Who Broke the Laws of Gravity (and Landed in Court)" is Professor Lowell M. Rose, who has learned to levitate and now feels he is above it all, even the legal system.

"Curse of the Werehouse"

Kim Curtis, an old friend of Jeff Byrd's, comes to him with a big problem: the house she and her husband, Tom, bought turns into a haunted house whenever the moon is full. Now Tom's boss is suing for personal injuries incurred when the house attacked him, the neighbors are up in arms over the mysterious going on, and federal agencies are getting into the act. How did the house become cursed? Who is haunting it? How can it be exorcised? And how can Kim and Tom get the government off their backs?
