The Eisner Awards
Everyone had a great time at this year’s Eisner Awards, especially those who took home trophies.
Tony Millionaire showed off his Eisner Award for Best Writer/Artist-Humor to Dark Horse Comics editor Phillip Simone.
Golden/Silver Age great Dick Ayers was inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame.
The whole family was on hand when cartoonist Gene Yang won the last Eisner of the night, Best Graphic Album-New, for American Born Chinese.
Neil Gaiman received the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award, and hisAbsolute Sandman received the award for Best Archival Collection-Books. But his appearance at the awards will be best remembered for his moments on stage with co-presenter Jonathan Ross, who managed to turn Neil’s face a bright red, not only through some hilarious teasing but by planting a big kiss right on Neil’s mouth.
British TV personality and huge comics fan Jonathan Ross brought down the house as the final presenter of the evening (with Neil).
Jane Wiedlin, of Go-Gos fame, assisted MC Bill Morrison throughout
the evening. Even though the Eisners ran 3 hours and 20 minutes, the
entertaining show moved along at a fast pace.
Presenters Tom Lennon and Ben Garant (stars of Reno 911)
had the audience in stitches, as did The Goon’s Eric Powell
(center) with his co-presenter Dwight Albatross.
Batton was very proud of Jackie on her big night of the show.
Pam Noles was looking terrific for the gala evening. Pam is not only a past Eisner judge and a big Supernatural Law fan, but is a longtime Comic-Con volunteer. This year she once again served as Gaiman’s onsite “wrangler.”
