2006 Eisner Awards Evening

Comics Buyer's Guide's Maggie Thompson did her usual stellar job of
paying tribute to the members of the Comic-Con family
who had died during the year. After the awards she had a chance to
chat with Jackie and Carolyn Kelly (daughter of cartoonist Walt Kelly).

'Publisher's Weekly' senior editor Calvin Reid is honored with the 2006 Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award
Calvin Reid, senior news editor for Publisher's Weekly,
received the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award. The only disappointment
was that wife Jodie was out of the room when he won!

The theme for this year's Eisners was couples.
Among the couples who presented awards were
writer Paul Dini and his new bride, magician Misty Lee.

The couple everyone was talking about was the always
stylishly dressed Kayre and Bill Morrison.

And speaking of stylish, you can always count on Anina Bennett
(who presented with her husband Paul Guinan) and The Beat's
Heidi MacDonald to put on the Ritz!

Jackie and Batton are, of course, Exhibit A's premier couple.

Frank Miller & Jackie share a heartfelt moment at the 2006 Eisners
Frank Miller gave a heartfelt acceptance for the
Best Comics-Related Book, which went to Eisner/Miller,
his dialogue with the late Will Eisner,
edited by Charles Brownstein and Diana Schutz.

Kyle Baker could boast a couple of Eisners
(for Best Reality-Based Work, Nat Turner,
and Best Writer/Artist-Humor).

The Eisners Band - Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals
Music for the Eisner afterparty was provided by a duo that
went by the name of Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals
("straight from an extended engagement in Central City").
The local musicians consisted of Marion Garver Frederickson
on flute and Chris Fulford-Brown on keyboards.

Mark Evanier at the 2006 Eisners
Mark Evanier was able to relax after the Eisners and
having conducted the presentation of the
Bill Finger Excellence in Comic Book Writing Award.
The table decorations were created and assembled
by Robyn Hill and Mimi Cruz Carroll.
