Exhibit A Press had a great spot in ALA's graphic novel pavilion. (above - Batton & Jackie, below - Batton at booth)
Right next door to Exhibit A were the Kids Love Comics folks. Batton and Jackie couldn't have asked for better neighbors: John Gallagher (Buzzboy), Jimmy Gownley (Amelia Rules!), and Jane Fisher (WJHC).
Syndicated cartoonist Keith Knight (The K Chronicles) was his own roving booth. He organized a group of comics folks to go out to Fiorella's on Decatur for some Southern fried chicken.
Neil Gaiman made a brief appearance at ALA, signing his novel Anansi Boys at the HarperCollins booth. But he managed to squeeze in time to drop in on Jackie's graphic novel panel.
Jackie appeared on the panel "Graphic Novels, Manga, and Anime: What's New and Cool for Your Library," sponsored by YALSA and organized by Mike Pauwuk. The moderator was Michele Gorman; other panelists included Kat Kan, Kristen Spears, Robin Brenner, and Kevin King. The main topic was manga, since that seems to be what's been bringing kids into libraries, but Jackie was able to talk out all the new graphic novels (including nonfiction works) coming out from mainstream book publishers.
Jackie took the Kids Love Comics crew to Mulate's for great cajun food and live cajun music from La Touché.
