The Exhibit A Press Booth
Batton and Jackie at the 2003 Exhibit A booth. Note the new Mavis T-shirt on display
This year Batton and Jackie shared booth space with UglyTown, publishers of such great mystery novels as Pascoe and Fassbender’s By the Balls. Those in the know will recognize Jim Pascoe as the original model for Mavis’s ex-boyfriend, Toby Bascoe!
Eunice Verstagen was the first to purchase one of the new “girlie” Mavis T’s.
Ted Slampyak, writer/artist of The Jazz Age Chronicles, stopped by with Jennifer Atkins.
Batton with Art Adams, who provided the cover art for Supernatural Law #39.
Robyn Moore, wife of Comic-Con special guest Terry Moore, stopped by the booth with Strangers in Paradise 10th anniversary chocolate bars. Ummmm.
Writer/editor Anina Bennett can always be counted on as a style setter at Comic-Con!
It was great to see a few old friends who hadn’t been to Comic-Con for a while: Mr. Monster’s Michael T. Gilbert, Gary Leach (formerly of Gladstone and now of Gemstone’s Disney Comics line), writer Tony Isabella, and Susan Daigle Leach (also of Disney Comics).
At left, cartoonist/animator Mike Kunkel won this year’s Eisner Award for Best Title for a Younger Audience for his Herobear and the Kid. Mike’s pinup appeared in Mavis #3.

Above: another Eisner winner: Todd Klein has now won the Best Lettering award for ten straight years.
At first we didn’t recognize him: Dean Haglund, who played “Langly” on X-Files spinoff The Lone Gunman (it’s a crime the show was cancelled!) had cut off that long blonde hair. Here he is with Ian Boothby, who writes lots of great stories for Bongo’s Simpsons Comics, and Roger Fredericks.
A frequent visitor to the booth was cartoonist Randall Kirby, whose pinup appears in Supernatural Law #38. Randall had has brand-new comic, Bop!
