Comic-Con International: San Diego 2005
Seen at the Eisner Awards:
Denis Kitchen, who was one of the presenters for the evening, received the CBLDF’s Defender of Liberty Award. Here is accompanied by Marisa Furtado, Brazilian filmmaker whose award-winning documentary on Will Eisner was screened at Comic-Con. Ann Eisner, Will’s widow, who welcomed everyone to the awards and thanked them for honoring Will.
Joanne Siegel, widow of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel, who was on hand to accept the Bill Finger Award for Jerry.
Adele Kurtzman, Harvey’s widow, who accompanied Ann Eisner at Comic-Con.
Eric Powell, creator of The Goon, took home two Eisners: Best Humor Publication and Best Continuing Series
Gene Colan, who was elected to the Will Eisner Hall of Fame Award.
Darwyn Cooke, whose DC: The New Frontier won the Eisner for Best Limited Series, with the Pulse’s Heidi MacDonald.
Mike Richardson, publisher of Dark Horse Comics, was delighted that Dark Horse titles and creators took home 5+ awards.
Jon Cooke (center) winner of the Best Comics-Related Publication for Comic Book Artist. He is flanked by Danny Fingeroth, editor of Write! magazine, and Jon’s brother Andrew. The Cookes are currently producing a documentary on Eisner.
Mimi Cruz Carroll, whose Night Flight Comics in Salt Lake City won the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailing Award, and Bill Willingham, writer of DC/Vertigo’s Fables, which won the Eisner for Best Serialized Story.
