The Soddyssey, And Other Tales of Supernatural Law
At last, the "missing" volume from the Supernatural Law series of trade
paperbacks. This book collects issues 9-16 of the original Wolff & Byrd comic
book series. Chronologically, it falls after Tales of Supernatural Law and
before Sonovawitch! As with Tales, the stories in this collection have been
"remastered," including complete relettering and retoning. The stories include:
"The * Files" (parodying, of course, The X Files), "I'm Carrying Satan's Baby,"
"Strange Bedfellows," "I Married a Sniveling Blob of Jelly," "The Man Who Had
His Own Personal Laugh Track," "Personal Injuries and Guardian Angels" (with
Jack Benny as the guardian angel), "Triskaidekaphobia" (in which perennial client
Sodd finally goes on trial), "Bad Blood" (a takeoff on Anne Rice), "The Statue
of Limitations," "The Returns of Roger Rizzolli," "The Littlest Loup Garou," and
the whole conclusion to the Sodd story, "Sodd, We Hardly Knew Ye."

Sonovawitch! and Other Tales of Supernatural Law
This 176-page trade paperback contains issues 17-22 of Wolff & Byrd, Counselors
of the Macabre, along with the first issue of Mavis.
The main story in the book, "Sonovawitch!", concerns a lonely single guy who is
sued for "hexual harassment" after his mom (a witch), puts a spell on one of his
employees to make her fall in love with him. The original comic book issues were
nominated for a Bram Stoker Award, given by the Horror Writers of America. Lash
was also nominated for a Will Eisner Comic Industry Award as Best
Writer/Artist—Humor for the Sonovawitch issues.
The attractively produced trade paperback contains several other cases from the
files of Wolff & Byrd, featuring such clients as a physician who specializes in
reviving the dead; a hunchback accused of teaching Satanism to preschoolers; a
vampire henchman for the Nosferatu crime cartel; a Japanese priest who guards a
jewel that can unleash the power of a giant reptilian monster; and a nice guy
whose soul has accidentally possessed the body of a demon.
The introduction is provided by Neil Gaiman, award-winning author of such books
as Stardust, Neverwhere, and the Sandman series. Gaiman writes, "Batton Lash's
delicious Wolff and Byrd tales are the finest funny supernatural fictions ever
created, and one of the best legal soap operas out there."

Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre — 'The Red Book'
WAREHOUSE FIND!
Back in 1987, Andrion Books (long since out of business) published the first
collection of Wolff & Byrd comic strips. Batton ran out of copies of the
book before Exhibit A Press began and had lost track of where any copies might
be. He's now been contacted by his former publisher, who ran across some boxes
of the book while cleaning out a storage facility. So Exhibit A now has
available some copies of what is fondly referred to as "The Red Book."
This 64-page 8 1/2 x 11 book contains strips that appeared in The National
Law Journal and The Brooklyn Paper in the mid-1980s and predate those
reprinted in the Supernatural Law and Fright Court collections. In
these strips Wolff & Byrd defend a vampire dentist, go to L.A. for an est-like
experience, encounter a young man possessed by Clarence Darrow, and deal with
ghosts, witches, time travelers, werewolves, the undead—and Ronald Coleman?
PLUS! The introduction of Mavis, and a flashback
to young Alanna and Jeff in law school. All for just $7.00—the original cover
price (plus shipping and handling).
Caution: The strips are printed smaller than their original versions, so
get out your glasses!
Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Supernatural Law
This book collects 14 stories from the long-running weekly newspaper strip.
Among those included: "The Rock 'N' Holy Roller," in which a rock star and an
evangelist switch minds; "Wonky, The Wonderful Widdle Cat," the tale of a
popular cartoon cat who escapes from the TV screen into the three diminsional
world; "The Boogeyman," who, says teenager Prima Donner, is the cause of all her
misbehavior; "The Once and Future Lawsuit," in which Merlin's secrets are
invoked to bring forth a demon of commerce; "Lawyers in Hell," referring to when
Wolff and Byrd must literally go to hell to confer with a client; "Wolff Goes
Home," in which Alanna encounters romance as well as a mysterious town not
unlike Lake Woebegon; and "Beauty and the Breach," an irreverent poke at TV's
Beauty and the Beast TV show.
Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre: Case Files, Vol. I

Smith, Shawn McManus, Phil Hester, and Charles Vess. In between, Wolff & Byrd
